BLOGGING
Posterous, the blogging platform that brought simplicity to the blogosphere has its own android app to facilitate quick and easy online publishing of text, photos and video while on the move. Apart from publishing to your Posterous blog, you can also setup your content to be sent to other frequently used sites like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, Picasa etc.

The long awaited official Blogger app is now finally available. Allows switching between multiple Blogger accounts, viewing post list and publishing articles with labels, pictures and even location details. However, there are some flaws to be ironed out like deleting a post seems to delete it from the blog itself, doesn’t allow image re-sizing, no video support etc. Hopefully future versions will take care of these issues. In its current form, still good enough for casual bloggers I guess.

WordPress users have a sturdy app supporting Wordpress.com and self-hosted WordPress blogs. Enables publishing of new posts, editing content, viewing stats and comment management with built-in notifications.

SOCIAL
eBuddy Messenger is a cool IM app supporting multiple accounts with services like MSN, Facebook, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, GTalk, MySpace and Hyves. Allows chatting simultaneously with contacts in any of these accounts, setting avatars, emoticons, contact grouping etc.

The official Facebook app facilitates connecting and sharing with Facebook friends. Supports status updates, chat, news feed, event lookup, look at your friends’ walls and user info, places, photos, links, messages and videos; in short, you can do all standard Facebook activities while on the go with this app.

Twidroyd is a standard twitter client available in free and pro versions. The free version will do for most of us if we can live with the in-app promotions. This app supports multiple accounts, direct messages with threaded view, postings, mentions, lists, viewing use profiles, URL shortening, photo & video posting, share tweet via email/SMS, color themes, multiple languages, SSL for secure connectivity, custom alert ringtones etc. All-in-all, a complete app for twitter users.

EMAIL
The official Gmail app comes with most standard gmail features like sync, conversations, search, stars, labels, contacts, priority inbox etc. Sometimes the notification does not seem to work consistently and attachment handling could be better; otherwise this works well for gmail needs.

Yahoo! Mail users have an official app too supporting standard email features like multiple accounts, integration with Yahoo! Messenger, rich text composing with attachments and emoticons, push notifications, search, smart folders etc. Sometimes seems a bit slow and shows incorrect number of unread messages, but does the job for Yahoo! users.

K-9 is probably the most popular droid email client out there. It’s also a very powerful app supporting IMAP, POP3, SMTP, Exchange 2003/2007, signatures, combine inboxes, quick and easy setup of accounts, search, open & save attachments etc. In short, does just about everything you need from an email client.

The Last.fm app helps to discover artists, sync with Last.fm contacts, share favorite songs, view friend profiles and artist info etc.

VIDEO
The official YouTube app, lets us experience some tube joy with in-page and fullscreen playback, personalized homescreen video feed etc.

WORSHIP SERVICE PLANNING
Planning Center Online has released an Android app that can be used with an existing PCO account. The app facilitates viewing/editing service plans, accessing files within plans / songs page, accessing People tab to view / edit info and view PCO Live provided your account has that feature enabled. This is only the first version, so there are some issues to be sorted out, still worth a try.

E-BOOK READER
Aldiko is probably the app of choice for most Droid users when it comes to reading ebooks. It has a huge catalogue of ebooks from classics to current best-sellers with ability to add your own books. Many classics are free too! The font type, color, margin, line spacing and alignment are customizable plus there’s a useful night mode for reading in low-luminosity areas. A word search is also provided to search a word inside a book / dictionary / Google / Wikipedia.

MUSIC
My Piano is a fun app to play piano on your droid device. Supports 10 instruments starting with piano, multi-touch, integrated sampler, MIDI with note velocity and volume control, record and save etc.

Robotic Guitarist is the only decent free guitar app I could find. It has a guitar emulator, chord guide, tuner and a Metronome. Feature the sounds of acoustic guitar, electric guitar and a piano too.

MEDIA PLAYER
DoubleTwist is a great replacement for the default music player many Android phones seem to come with. This app is an all-in-one music player, radio and video player. It's best feature is the ability to sync music playlists, music ratings and playcounts with iTunes on your PC or MAC!
