The Internet is a powerhouse of information, technology tools and more for those looking to keep learning and getting better at the wonderful craft of songwriting, especially creating songs for the Lord. Blogs by songwriters have been particularly useful to me; though it’s difficult to pick just a few of them into a list, I want to share these 8 blogs that have helped me the most. The list is not in any particular order.

1. Blogging Muses
In existence since 2006, Blogging Muses is a goldmine of information and tips for beginners and experienced songwriters. Apart from lyric writing, this blog has information on the music business, submitting songs to record labels, recording demos, using software and more.
2. The Halted Clock
With over 200 articles on songwriting, this blog also offers podcasts and a section uniquely titled ‘Gears’ – a cross-referenced catalogue of hundreds of songwriting tricks, tips and tools neatly organized under easy-to-follow categories.
3. Songsphere
An excellent blog focused on stuff related to songwriting like lyric writing, publishing, trivia, spirituality and more. Solid articles that are sure to hone your songwriting skill and technique.
4. Songwriting Lab
This is more of a community driven website that collects songwriting tips from its Twitter followers and republishes it on its website – you can expect daily updates. The site has songwriting articles, exercises, critiques and more.
5. How To Write A Song HQ
This site has tons of helpful articles, podcasts, forum, free songs etc. to get your songwriting craft going. Articles cover a wide range of topics to learn and upgrade your skills regularly.
6. My Song In The Night
A newcomer to the songwriting blogosphere that’s already proving itself to be an insightful resource for songwriters. Covers tips for writing contemporary songs as well as modern hymns, writing testimonies and more.
7. Vicky Beeching
Awarded “Best Christian Blog” in the UK’s Christian New Media Awards – 2011, Vicky’s blog covers all kinds of topics that are especially useful for worship leaders and songwriters. A fantastic blog from someone who has worked with Delirious, Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, Gungor, Tim Hughes, Michael W. Smith…need I say more?
